Citizen Science: Etch a Cell

Students had the opportunity to participate in the Zooniverse.com citizen science project: “Sketch a Cell.” This helped students to practice identifying the nucleus, in addition to seeing high-resolution, three-dimensional photographs of living cells through the lens of cutting-edge electron microscopes.  Due to the odd shapes of some of the nuclei, students struggled to identify the nuclei, leading them to the conclusion that not all nuclei follow the stereotypical spherical shapes often depicted in traditional models.
