Special Visitor!

This week, the 6th grade had a special visitor.  Dr. Ozeas Costa, an associate professor of earth sciences at The Ohio State University, joined us for an interactive experience about the rock cycle.  Students were able to learn about the rock cycle by using various tests and through observing different rock samples under microscopes.  Professor Costa gave students the opportunity to observe many different samples, some of which he personally brought back from his biogeochemistry excursions around the globe.  At the end of the lesson, students were able to explore how metamorphic rocks are created by creating their own “rock” out of multi-colored clay.  The “clay rocks” were then sliced open to expose the intricate patterns found inside.
